Define your Maximum Heart Rate MHR. There is a simple formula that states: 220 – your age = your Maximum Heart Rate. For example, say you are 40 years old, your Maximum Heart Rate is: 220 – 40 = 180 heartbeats per minute.
Now what do you do with it?
- Want to lose weight, build
endurance or just need to recover?
Working out at 60-70% of your
MHR is the solution for you. So if
you were 40 yrs old, this would
be 108 to 126 heartbeats per minute.
- Need to regularly improve your
cardiovascular condition? Stay at
70-80% of your MHR. 40 yrs old,
126 to 144 heartbeats per minute.
- Look for intensity and interval
training: go for 80% and more of
your MHR. 40 yrs old, 144 to 180
heartbeats per minute.
